The battle to save a 30yr old Tun tree from being axed lasted for 4 days. The campaign had its ups and downs. We managed to ward off the Contractor for 3 days, a promise by the District Magistrate of Dehradun that no harm will come to the tree, made us withdraw on 15th April. Alas, the contractor took advantage of our "standing down" and felled the tree, contravening DM's orders, at 7.00am.

Our members wore black arm bands and cornered the DM on 17th April 10. Besides giving the Executive Engineer of PWD a mouthful, he promised us that such an event will not be repeated. Too late for the tree though.
