Citizens For Green Doon on Sunday staged a dharna at Clock Tower to protest against the non-inclusion of residents of Dehra Dun in the development of this city. According to the demonstrators the residents of this city are not included in the decision making process, which is done entirely by bureaucrats who do not have any sentimental feelings for the city.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Nitin Pandey said that before finalizing future plans for Dehra Dun the government must interact and take the opinion of a wide cross section of society. Because the government has so far failed to interact with the residents, the town is turning into a concrete jungle, which is not what the people want. Mrs. Ruchi Singh Rao said that Dehra Dun was once known for greenery and as a city of “green hedges and grey hairs”. All this has changed and because of insensitive town planning. Canals which flowed through the city from the British period have been made underground, thus robbing the City of its identity. The rich and the powerful flout norms with impunity leading to numerous problems to the city dwellers. |
