Citizens For Green Doon on Sunday carried out a drive to free the trees on Rajpur Road of illegal hoardings nailed on to them. Volunteers of the group gathered in front of RTO and then moved towards Malsi. En route they removed all the hoardings they found nailed on to the trees.

Hoardings on trees are patently illegal, they are harmful to the tree because they destroy its tissues and interfere with the transmission of its sap and multiple nails on a tree make it weak.
Well known theatre personality, Alok Ulfat, also participated in the drive. He said that the beauty and sanctity of the trees is spoilt by these advertisement boards. He wondered how schools, while parting environmental knowledge to students could, themselves commit such a harmful act. He recalled that about 12yrs ago he and his friends on their own initiative had removed such hoardings from trees and he was sad that he had to do such a thing again because even “educated” people behave in an illiterate way.
