After three rounds of Anti plastic carry bags & pro cloth bags mass contact drives undertaken by CFGD, it was time to go back to the shops we visited and find out how many have done what they promised, that is to stop using plastic carry bags.
What we found that majority of the shopkeepers who had promised us to change over, had kept their word and got cloth bags, BUT, they were still using plastic carry bags & used the cloth bags occassionally. This was expected as such changes cannot occur with just one visit and re-visits & proddings is required. The good part was that they had taken a step in the right direction & probably after a bit more prodding from us, will stop using plastic carry bags. An interesting episode was a spontaneous dharna we held in front of Bata Showroom. Bata is the only company still using plastic carry bags, while Liberty and Reebok had by themselves shifted to cloth bags.
