A delegation of Citizens For Green Doon met on Monday officials of the Uttarakhand Forest Corporation, Mr. RL Khadera, DLM Dehradun and urged him to speedily fell dead trees and those trees which pose a hazard to life & property. It may be recalled that over the last few weeks two people have lost their lives due to trees falling on them. The delegation submitted a memorandum to Mr. Khadera, urging him to take prompt action to prevent any future mishaps.
Dr Nitin Pandey, a member of CFGD, said that the group was being blamed, by misinformed people, for the failure of the administration to fell dead and dangerous trees. He said that they were only opposed to felling of green & healthy trees and had never protested removal of dead trees and in order to set the record straight once and for all, the group had submitted a written plea to the Forest Corporation to urgently take action on the issue. He however added that healthy trees should not be felled under the guise of dead or dangerous trees. Mr. Himanshu Arora, another member of CFGD, mentioned that the group was opposed to felling of Mango tree at Sahasthradhara Crossing by labeling it as dangerous, as it was a healthy tree and was unlikely to pose any danger. He said that while the tree was to be felled for road widening, it was shown as dangerous on papers. This results in erroneous statics and should be done. Mrs. Venu Dhingra, another member of the delegation, said that lopping was urgently needed on a number of trees and the Forest Officials must take it up before some branches fall and injure someone. Mr. Rajeev Sachar, a CFGD Member, said that he had lost an employee about 4 weeks ago due to a tree falling on him in Sahasthradhara Road and he wished that such a tragedy did not visit any other family. Mr. Khadera informed the delegates that he had not received any list of dangerous / dead trees for felling from the DFO as yet and assured them that he would act on it as soon as he gets it. He said that a few days ago he had received such a list for the Malsi area where 8 trees were to be felled and he had completed the task in few days. He also informed them that as a matter of routine the Forest Corporation does not do lopping of trees, but would do so if requested by the DFO.
