The State Government is planning to four lane the Jollygrant - Raipur Road, on the pretext of SAF games. This road is one of the last beautiful remaining roads in Doon and is lined on both sides by beautiful trees.

Over 3500 trees will be felled if the Government has its way.

The matter is pending with the Ministry of Environment in Delhi.

We have been protesting against the plan at every available forum. The topic was also raised in all our press conferences and media releases and we have re-asserted our determination to stop it. Numerous emails and letters have been sent to the Environment Minister, Mr. Jairam Ramesh, not to approve the mass felling. We met the Chief Secretary, Government of Uttarakhand today and he appeared surprised at the number of trees to be felled. Though he gave us a patient hearing, he had nothing concrete to say and has directed us to meet the Secretary,PWD for a detailed discussion.

Read the memorandum we gave the Chief Secretary. We also broached the topic of tree transplantation and urged him to lay down guidelines for the process to be followed all over Uttarakhand. Read the letter here

We must prevent this road from being widened.
