Out of the blue, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, on 19th May 2010, issued orders that permission for all tree felling in Dehra Dun will hence forth be given only by the State Government. Though not mentioned in press reports, DFO Dehra Dun, informed us that even for lopping people will have to approach the State Government. While it looks temptingly good at first sight, yet a closer look on the declaration brings forth a number of questions.
